Fear
Fear is what it mostly comes down to for people who decline the Covid-19 Vaccine. After long talks with hundreds of people I find addressing their fear, mostly of the unknown, helps them to reconsider the value of the vaccine.
Many, not all, get the shot after an explanation on the similarities of how a virus works to infect and how the vaccine works to protect. They are, after all, very similar just that the actual virus is "dirty" with lots and lots of virus parts and the vaccine is "clean" with only one virus part.
I find people mask their fear in statements they have heard, just click on the "Statements" box over there to the left for a sample, which is used as a shield to justify a choice. That is fairly normal human behavior. There are levels of shields from the simply apathetic to the delusional wrapped up in elaborate conspiracy theories, and all points in between. In all cases self-preservation takes precedence so my goal is to address concerns to show the risk/benefit ratio leans toward getting vaccinated. Self-preservation.
After billions of inoculations the vaccine is well known. The unknown then becomes ones response to the virus should they perchance get it. And that, gentle readers, should be the source of fear. The true unknown.
